AUST, Abuja

Conference Background

Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) are recognized globally as pivotal drivers of economic growth, societal development, and national progress. In Nigeria, research institutes across various fields generate substantial outputs that hold the potential to transform industries, shape policies, and address pressing societal challenges. However, a significant gap exists between the production of research and its effective communication to the stakeholders who need it most.

One major challenge is the limited dissemination of research findings. Many outputs are confined to academic publications written in highly technical language, making them inaccessible to industries, policymakers, and the public. This disconnect hinders the practical application of scientific discoveries and limits their contribution to national development. Furthermore, the lack of trained science communicators and inadequate collaboration between research institutes and the media exacerbates the issue, leaving valuable knowledge underutilized.

Conference Theme

"Communicating Science, Technology, and Innovation for National Development"

The need to bridge this gap is urgent. Effective communication of STI research outputs can empower industries to innovate, enable policymakers to make informed decisions, and engage the public in adopting science-driven solutions. To address this critical issue, the 1st National Conference on Science, Technology, and Innovation Communication (STICOMMS 2025) is being convened under the theme: "Communicating Science, Technology, and Innovation for National Development."

This conference aims to provide a platform for stakeholders from academia, research institutes, industries, media, and government to explore strategies for enhancing the visibility, accessibility, and impact of STI research. By fostering collaboration and capacity building, the conference seeks to bridge the communication divide and unleash the full potential of STI for national development.
